PANTON MUSIC PM1104 (CD-R) IMPROMPTUS & SONATAS DAVID PANTON ELECTRIC PIANO 1-Venus Enters, 2-Improvisation 1(04), 3-Improvisation 2(04), 4-Goodbye Song David Panton - solo electric piano All tracks by David Panton published by D & ED Panton (Music) Recorded West Midlands: 26, 27 November and 3 December 2004 Liner notes: These piano improvisations were recorded in the West Midlands in 2004. The first and last are based on themes originally written in 1968/69, the middle pair being spontaneously created at the time of the recording. The overall title is a reference to John Cage's Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano, but here there are no direct allusions to Asian music or philosophy which inspired Cage, but a free association of ideas. The 'Sonatas' (tracks 1 and 4) develop the musical ideas in a similar manner to 'classical' sonata form rather than by repetition plus variation. The free form 'Impromptus' (tracks 2 and 3) similarly follow their own logic. DP
