Single CO 2013 on The Field Reporter label
Spoken Word (Field Recording)
Recordings captured on Beija, Panama. No layering and montage was composed with long fragments. 'El Coyote' is a sonic and visual essay based on my experience in the touristic complex of Bijao in Panama on January of 2013. The tension between the ecosystem and the intrusive architecture there was quite evident and this environmental contrast, and the subjacent anthropological and biological implications became the focus of my artistic interest. This was not about an ideal natural environment, but about an available quotidian environment and how it could reflect questions and reflections of my interest. This is about a hybrid habitat and the way the animals adapt their acoustic behavior to the sounds of machines when they become part of their their environment. I asked photographer Lina Velandia to capture images as I wanted this essay to be both sonic and visual. During the recordings of these sounds I had some thoughts in regard of the phonographic based composition that complements the essay. -The sound material was composed without layering although some equalization was done at certain parts to explore the possibility of making them more realistic- David Velez
