If you are not familiar with Davy Spillane, he is a founder member of Ireland's Moving Hearts and a specialist among the few in the field of uillean pipers. As a craftsman of this instrument, he is well sought after as a soloist having worked with a huge array of artists which includes Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, Steve Winwood, Chris Rea & Emmylou Harris. Mixing the traditional with the contemporary, Spillane's own music is broadening folk's focus. His new album, his fifth solo project and a Columbia debut, is called "A Place Among The Stones". It includes seven instrumental tracks featuring his pipes, low whistle and acoustic guitar, and three tracks where Davy is accompanied by Clannad's Maire Brennan (A Place Among The Stones), Sean Tyrell (Starry Night) and Steve Winwood (Forever Frozen). WIth Davy's singular talents & consummate taste, this album takes you somewhere every bit as haunting and evocative as its title suggests. Here are four tracks taken from Davy's new album for you to enjoy - music recently described as 'windswept, air in the face music that clears the mind and elevates the spirits.'
