Band,
Hip-Hop/Rap
Short-lived early-'90s afrocentric hip hop crew from Howard University. The lyrics are pro-black, conscious, and somewhat militant, stylistically indebted to similar but better-known groups like X-Clan, Paris (2), or Public Enemy. Founding group member Zulu King Paris (A.K.A. Paris Lewis) went on to change his name to Malik Shabazz, and later became Chairman of the New Black Panther Party. The sleeve for the 12" of "Rise! Black Man Rise!" mentions the forthcoming album "One God, One Aim, One Destiny", which was apparently never released. Interestingly, the cassette single of the same song calls the forthcoming album "40 Acres and We Rule". Members: Zulu King Paris, Mercurator T.P.S. (A.K.A. R. Greene (4)), The Warlord (3), and The Nubian Scholar.
