Denis-Constant Martin (born 13 July 1947) is a French scholar. He teaches political anthropology at the institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux and has also given courses in the music department of the Paris 8 University, but also, among others, in South Africa, Algeria, the United States and Kenya where in 1980 he founded and directed the "Institut de recherches en Afrique." Since the end of the 1970s, Denis-Constant Martin has been striving to develop an approach to the sociology of music that remains associated with musicology and ethnomusicology. He first worked on reggae and Afro-American music in the United States, then on the music of Trinidad and Tobago (calypso, steel bands) and South Africa, on African music and "World Music".
