Scottish bassist, born 22 June 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Bass player with Simple Minds 1978-1985, 1998 on the studio album Néapolis. After departing Simple Minds in 1985 he joined up with the German band Propaganda to play bass for. In the 2000s he along with ex Simple Minds Mick MacNeil and Brian McGee formed "XSM" (Ex- Simple Minds) and a group called "Four Good Men" with Mick MacNeil ( Ex-Simple Minds), Ian Donaldson and Bruce Watson (Big Country). Derek currently plays bass for Big Country taking over duties of Tony Butler who retired in 2012. Also performs as "Derek Forbes And The Dark" .
