UK mastering / cutting engineer and later chief mastering engineer at Pye Studios between 1964 and 1975. Pye record cuts by him can be identified by △S, ♢S, ✳S (1963 - 1968) and △W and ♢W (1968 - 1974). Thy symbols identify the cutting suites: The diamond: until 1974 identifying the Westrex/Scully lathe and from 1974 onwards identifying the Neumann SX74 lathe. The triangle: until 1968 identifying the Westrex/Scully lathe and from 1968 onwards identifying the Neumann SX68 lathe. The star: identifying the Westrex/Scully mono lathe, operative until ca. 1974. Please use Lacquer Cut At - Pye Studios, and Lacquer Cut By - Derek Sticklen + ANV S or ANV W (without symbol). Do not confuse ♢S and ♢W with masterings from Deutsche Grammophon (usually coming with a ℗ + year, and/or a letter + number, e.g. L8). After leaving Pye in 1975, he worked as technical manager for a sister company of Carlton Productions in Ireland, as technical manager for Battery Studios, London, as well as for Aerco Productions, Utopia Studios, and FWO Bauch (studio gear company).
