Des had worked with with various Roots/Country-Rock band line-ups from his West Yorkshire base since the late ‘70s. He has had, in his own words, “a few skirmishes with fame”. In the mid 80s he fronted Blues-Rock band Raw Deal that was managed by the legendary Alexis Korner until his untimely death. In the 1990s Des was to be seen in hit videos on CMT and as opening act for Joe Ely, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Chuck Prophet and many others. This lead to a solo recording contract with fledgling London label Southbound Records, and his first commercial album release ‘Easy Road’. The record was produced by fellow Yorkshireman and highly respected songwriter and producer, Jon Strong. 'Easy Road' established Horsfall as a mainstream country/roots-rock artist and gained him popularity and recognition amongst the country and roots music communities. Videos of songs from the album enjoyed heavy rotation on Country Music Television and VH-1. 'Easy Road' also received substantial airplay on radio, including the Bob Harris and Nick Barraclough shows on BBC Radio 2. The end of the 1990s saw Des working with producer Gary Hall on his second studio album ‘Mixed Grill’ adding Blues and Folk influences into the pot. After touring 'Mixed Grill' with his band ‘Fallen Horses’, he entered the new Millennium with a live album ‘Breathing the Same Air’, which was produced by Gary Nattrass.
