Band,
Singer / Musician
Death/Black metal band from Sofia, Bulgaria. The band was founded in November 1992 by Ilko Gizdov (vocals), Mladen Zahariev (guitars), Andre Mateev (bass) and Nikola Surbinov (drums). Besides the debut album, a couple of songs were recorded during the rehearsal period. In March 1993, they recorded two demo songs at City Records Studio, one of which was included in the debut album. In April 1993, the song "Internal Predestination" was presented on Radio Tangra's "Tock Rock Abrasive" broadcast. Due to mandatory military service, the drummer had to leave the band. In November he was replaced by a new drummer - Ivailo Gamanov, an ex-Death Penalty member. After long nocturnal rehearsals during the winter of 1993-1994, Desolate entered the studio (Subdibula & Dilemma) from July 5th to 10th and recorded their first album "A Shadowed Dying Conscience" released by No Rip Off. After a prolonged pause of almost a year, the band resumed playing with a new line-up: Ilko Gizdov (vocals and keyboards), Velzevul (guitars), Metodi Pavlov (guitars), Danail Andonov (bass) and Ivailo Gamanov (drums). The first ever gig was played in the summer of 1996 at the Third National Death Festival. In the same year the band played several gigs in the country, the most important being its participation in the National Summer Festival "Summer Chaos", as well as the Traditional Sofia Winter Concert "Storms in Dreamssilence". In 1998, the band again took part in the National Summer Festival "Hysteria" together with the German headliners Darkseed, of which a live recorded tape, entitled "Four Elements", was released in 1999 by Wizard Company. The tape included four live songs plus a studio cover version of a song by the UK band Anathema.
