Detentos do Rap is a rap group formed in 1998 by four members convicted and imprisoned in the House of Detention São Paulo, known as Carandirú. The group's first album, titled "Apologia Ao Crime", sold 30,000 copies, was recorded within the House of Detention, in a mobile studio. The press conference also took place inside the prison. Later, in 1999 Denilson Vertelo better known as "Mano Reco" comes to add on the second album, entitled "O Pesadelo Continua", which sold 20,000 copies. Later the group released 4 albums: "Quebrando as Algemas do Preconceito" (2001), "Ao Vivo" (2003), "Amor é Só de Mãe... O Resto é Puro Ódio" (2003) and "Deus do Morro" (2005). In 2007 Mano Reco became evangelical and left the group, but in 2010 he returns to the group and Detentos do Rap releases his last studio album to date entitled "O Juiz + Justo é o Tempo".
