Born in Los Angeles in 1954, Dewayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight was originally guitar player for Herbie Hancock's Headhunters group in 1975. In 1978 he left the group to join the Parliament/Funkadelic band and is since then a regular collaborator (production, composition, programming ...) of the P.Funk galaxy.
