Playing The Black & Whites

Compil. US 1989 on Pickwick label
Jazz

Printed in U.S.A. (P) & (C) 1989 Pickwick Entertainment, Inc. Tracks 1, 2: New York, March 4th, 1944. Black & White 28. Tracks 3 to 6: New York, July 16th, 1944. Black & White 26 and 2. Tracks 7 to 10: New York, July 17th, 1942. Black & White 1, 25 and 2. Tracks 11 to 14: New York, December 21st, 1944. Black & White 1208 and 1209. Black & White 78s were released during and just after WWII. The excitement and quality of the Black & White masters have never before been captured in true state-of-the-art performances. Each master has been processed to offer you the opportunity of hearing these magnificent historical performances in their genuine brilliance. Because of the rarity of these recordings, which were pressed on primitive vinyl compound or re-ground shellac, it is hoped that the importance of the music will more than compensate for any sonic imperfections. Original 78s from the collections of Robert Altshuler, Hank O'Neal and the Institute of Jazz Studies, Rutgers University, Newark, NJ.
