Not to be confused with Bill Minkin's parody persona of Senator McKinley. Everett McKinley Dirksen (January 4, 1896 - September 7, 1969) was an American politician of the Republican Party, representing Illinois, he helped write and pass two landmarks of civil rights legislation in the 1960s, and was also one of the Senate's strongest supporters of the Vietnam War.
