Dixie Earl Bryant

A.k.a. Sylvia Dixie Bryant

Long Beach, CA-based composer of more than 100 songs under the name Dixie Earl or Dixie Earl Bryant (her husband's name was John Earl Bryant). While a waitress at the Lafayette Hotel in Long Beach in the mid-1940s, she met music producer and director Cecil Stewart who wrote down her first four songs. Later, she worked as a drill operator at Pacific Valve Co. while writing songs on the side that were recorded by Broadway Records (2) or on her own Velvet label. Her greatest success was Slim Whitman's version of her song "Tell Me" on Imperial.
