Dmitry Shchyolkin (b. 1979) is a Russian percussionist, marimba and vibraphone performer, one of the members of Mark Pekarsky Percussion Ensemble. From 2006 to 2012, he also played in the Studio for New Music Ensemble. Dmitry studied woodwind instruments and percussion with Mark Pekarsky at the Moscow Conservatory and graduated with honors in 2002. Currently, he works on a Ph.D. thesis Percussion in the Medieval and Renaissance Music. Performing solo and with various ensembles, including Pratum Integrum Orchestra, Alter Ego (9), Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra and The Pocket Symphony, Dmitry covers wide repertoire from early Renaissance/Classicism harpsichord and lute music in his original and innovative arrangements for modern marimba and vibraphone to academic avant-garde of the early XXI century. Shcholkin had premiered solo works by Salvatore Sciarrino, Helmut Lachenmann, Georges Aperghis, Franco Donatoni, François-Bernard Mâche, Per Nørgård, Kevin Volans and other composers in Russia. He has been collaborating with a Centre for Contemporary Music in Moscow Conservatory and took part in improvisational sessions with Alexey Sysoev, Yury Favorin, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Sachiko M. Dmitry participated in various festivals in Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, including MANCA (Nice), Schleswig-Holstein (Hamburg), Musika Antiqua Brugge, Darmstädter Ferienkurse and La Biennale di Venezia.
