ORPHAN NO MORE was released as a "year of jubilee" project by Dr. Don Hess, a mandolinist and singer-songwriter based in Williamsport, PA. While primarily a neo-traditional folk singer, Hess hired a full band and production team to flesh out his gospel-driven material. Elements of pop, reggae, and old school soul made the project more mainstream and fulfilled the vision. It was engineered by Tim Breon (David Rose) and produced by Johnny J. Blair (Davy Jones, Monkees, Buddy Miller)--who called the project a "folk rock Sgt. Peppers." The instrumentation is eclectic, including flute, xylophone, tuba, mariachi bass, and viola da gamba (performed by Roy Whelden of the noted classical group American Baroque).
