Doron Orenstein

sax, JP
Musician of Dance
A.k.a. Bloompocket

Starting his journey at age 12 as an award-winning saxophonist, touring Japan and performing solo at the Los Angeles Music Center as a high school student, Doron Orenstein eventually found himself studying jazz and jamming with the greats in New York City. He went on to tour the world with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra at the ripe age of twenty-one. However, Mother Music had other ideas in store for Doron. After 11 years immersed in the sounds of bebop and beyond, furthest from his mind was the world of digital drums, samples, sequencers, and loopy grooves. Serendipitously inspired by the now-legendary desert dance parties of Southern California, Doron branched out into the world of electronic music in 1997 alongside his classically-trained compatriot Gabriel D Vine. The two set out on a crash course in house music production rapidly resulting in an album and chart-topping singles for Subliminal Records as house music duo, Monkey Bars. Making waves in clubland as well as on dance music radio programs worldwide, their track “You Be Want Some Fun” was named the BBC’s Dance Tune of the Week while their single “Shuggie Love” hit the #1 spot on the UK’s Music Week chart. Transcending the confines of the studio, Monkey Bars blazed new trails with their innovative DJ sets combining house music with live sax and keyboards, taking dancefloors in major venues througout North America and Canada to the highest heights of drummy-jazz jubilation. Kicking things up yet another notch with their live sets, Monkey Bars shined like no other. Just ask anyone who heard them perform alongside Erick Morillo and P. Diddy at the Miami Winter Music Conference’s most massive of events, the Subliminal Sessions. Incorporating on-the-fly renditions of their biggest tunes bolstered by live instruments and combined with the stellar vocals of singer Rachael Hollingsworth, their shows have been described as “history in the making.” As a sax-wielding gun for hire, Bloompocket’s Doron has accompanied some of house music’s biggest names, both in the studio as well as live in clubland. Heavyweights such as Roy Davis Jr., Halo, Kemal, Rick Preston, J.T. Donaldson, and Eric Davenport (to name just a few) have called on Doron’s services to add his irreplaceable “house-meets-jazz” dimension to their groove-work. Now, in the wake of a celebrated and influential run as one half of Monkey Bars, Doron has musically reincarnated and returned to his jazzy and soulful roots. With his premiere single, “I’ll Show You” on Milan’s Gotta Keep Faith Records, elements of classic house collide with 80’s smooth-pop, 50’s bebop, and percussion flourishes to complete a vivid bouquet of eargasmic felicity. Wielding a sonic pallette of unlimited hue, Bloompocket shows you just what happens when an unlikely house music producer harnesses the power of harmony, melody, groove, and love.
