In 1981 Tina Scott founder of the 80's R&B group "Krystol" met a known record producer by the name of Leon F. Sylvers III of the the R&B group "The Sylvers" and during the course of this affiliation her little brother a rapper by the name of Darrick (Mello Mackin "D") Scott and his partner vocalist and popper, Lawrence (Mr. Stretch) Bowen came up with a way to fuse his rapping skills together with the vocal style of Mr. Stretch and created a unique sound that caught the attention of Leon Sylvers at Devonshire Sound Studios in north Hollywood, California. After making this discovery Leon immediately put the duo in the recording studio which resulted in a 1985 Motown release entitled Mello Mackin D & Mr. Stretch "Back to School" this single gave the duo a great deal of local popularity and recognition. In 1987 Darrick met a dynamic Vocalist by the name of Robert A. Goins aka Robert A. Goins Shropshire through Roberts sister Michelle Goins at their mothers residence in Pomona California, and the two hit it right off. They immediately began writing and producing songs incorporating the two vocalist and adding to the mixture a Rapper by the name of Darryl (OG "D") Stokes and a DJ by the name of Kirby ("King Tut") Lofton, with two rappers and two R&B vocalist Darrick named the group "Double Action" In 1991 after Double Action had disbanded Robert A and Leon executed a reformation of the group and enlisted the help of a young producer by the Name of Isaias Gamboa and together with Robert "A" they began writing and producing new material for the newly formed group. Leon brought in brought in to help music producer D La'Vance who brought in rapper Crabrill C. Williams who completed the group by bringing in DJ Cleon ("Bookquarm"). Under its revised name Double Action Theatre (DAT) the group secured a record deal and released their first self titled album in 1992 off the Polydor Record label with their Single and video "Something Special." DAT went their separate ways in 1994 to pursue other ventures but remain very close friends to this day.
