Doug Hood

NZ
Rock
A.k.a. Douglas Hood

Along with Chris Knox, Doug Hood, more than anyone defined the sound that became known as the Flying Nun Records sound. He produced or recorded many records for the label and other NZ independent labels in the 1980s. An original member of The Clean, Hood came to Auckland as the soundman and manager of The Enemy when they moved from Dunedin to Auckland in 1978, and stayed with them when they became Toy Love. After they split he and Knox, using a 4 Track machine, began recording many of the bands who appeared on Flying Nun over the next few years. In 1984 Hood formed Looney Tours and over the next decade and a half toured dozens of indie and dance acts through New Zealand, and was behind the NZ Big Day Out shows. He also managed The Chills and other acts. He retired from the music industry in 2000 but is regarded as one of its legendary figures.
