Doumka Clarinet Ensemble is a brilliant, original trio of clarinet players from Lyon, France. As an ensemble and as soloists, classically trained players Hervé Bouchardy, Franck René and Alexis Ciesla combine dreamlike moods with sensitive rhythms and a huge improvisational fantasy. Through the sounds of their diverse clarinet timbres - ranging from the piccolo to the bass register - the three of them suggest to create impressions of the ugav, a legendary wind instrument that - according to biblical tales - could be heard emunating from the tents of Jubal the Nomad. In cooperation with percussionist Youval Micenmacher they take us to the heart of Middle Eastern music as well as Macedonian or Romanian traditions incorporated into their original works.
