Drift

A.k.a. Kojo Aidoo

Rapper and actor Drift, real name Kojo Aidoo, recently released two singles from his upcoming mixtape, The PreCursor. The first hot track is called “Sucka Free,” and was produced by BabyPaul aka BpZy, and Frank Finesse. Drift is of Ghanaian heritage and was raised in East Orange, New Jersey, and “Sucka Free” showcases a grittiness in the rapper that is 100 percent real. Drift’s life experiences were even written into the script during the first season of 50 Cent’s Starz series, “Power.” The New Jersey rapper grew up in an admittedly rough environment, and those struggles influenced his music heavily. “As a result of his upbringing he never held back or became timid while facing hard times,” a press release reads. “It was the steady decline of his surroundings that helped Drift open his heart and mind to music; particularly Hip Hop.” When Drift spits lines like, “Pistol whipped, now you whining like Keith Sweat/Drift is a hurricane, have you lying in the street wet,” one cannot help but be impressed by the lyricism and metaphors, while also being utterly convinced that the words are not just braggadocio. “Sucka Free” will make any listener salivate for The PreCursor. The second single is “Kiyana,” featuring Daisy Grant. The song is about a woman accusing her man of cheating, while the man insists that he hasn’t strayed. Drift proclaims that he doesn’t know any girl named Kiyana, and tries to convince his girl that he would be lost if her lost her. The song is definitely relatable for the ladies, and Drift’s voice is sincere and almost pleading on the hook. A video for this track would be very cool to see. The PreCursor is a demonstration of Drift’s songwriting abilities and skillful wordplay, and balances street anthems with conscious raps, and even some songs for the ladies. New listeners and long-time fans alike will enjoy “Innocent,” “Kiyana,” “Recognize,” “Street Runner,” and “Sucka Free” – songs that highlight the rapper’s versatility and penchant for imagery. Drift recently signed to veteran hip-hop producer BabyPaul’s record label and brand management firm, D.O.E./Transparency, with distribution by E-One Music. Also on the management team are Ron Baptiste, John Gore, and Kevon George. With a Grammy-nominated producer and seasoned execs backing him, Drift is poised to take his career to the next level.
