Singer of Jazz
A.k.a. Wilma Hayes Giles
Born in 1933 as Wilma Hayes (maiden name and legal first name), 'Dubby' Hayes Giles is a jazz singer, best known by her work with Charlie Spivak, who was also her third husband. She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and her father was a preacher. In late 1973 or early 1974, Dubby met Charlie Spivak when his band was playing as the house band at Ye Olde Fireplace restaurant / supper club in Greenville, South Carolina. Dubby was asked by Charlie Spivak to sing a song with the band, and almost immediately got the job as a vocalist for the group. Within a few months, Dubby and Charlie Spivak were married (third marriage for both of them). Dubby sang with a few jazz groups in addition to Charlie Spivak's group, such as the Nelson Riddle And His Orchestra, and still, when asked, sings at the Langdale Theatre (Valley, Alabama) with bands that need a singer.
