Album US on Vernon Records label
Jazz (Big Band)
1st cat# on sleeve, 2nd cat# on center label It's unclear which ensemble plays on which tracks. Side 2 tracks not in Ellington's book. "Phil Witherspoon" is possibly an alias of someone. It seems that there are 3 ensembles playing on this disc: Tracks A1, A2a, A2b: big band, (no mistaking the "ellingtonian" touch here) Inferno! and Overture To A Jam Session Part 1 & Part 2, are Ellington recordings (or re-recordings?) of a Billy Strayhorn (Musicraft 78 RPM, recorded Dec. 18, 1946, found on youtube) Tracks A3-A5: ensemble with organ & sax (titles not found anywhere) Tracks B1-B5; ensemble with trumpet (titles not found anywhere)
