Born in 1933 in Yeppoon, a small seaside resort near Rockhampton, Queensland (Australia). Dusty Rau started yodeling while working on his father's cane-cutting farm and went on to won a yodeling competition on the Buddy Wiliams' show. Dusty then joined the Stan Gill rodeo show for five months and appeared on various radio shows and concerts - eventually landing him a radio session for 4MK Mackay. Kenny Arnott, the famed "Singing Wanderer", heard Dusty sing at a concert in Naora, and advised him to contact Planet Records (16), which he did and was duly signed for a 5-year contract.
