LOOKING once more with incredulous admiration admiration at the unique history and achievement of E. K. Nyame and his Band, it seems that the best comparison would be with a soccer team that has managed to stay at or near the top of the league since the mid-forties, outright champions more often than not and many times winner of the cup. Guided by a genius of a player-captain-manager-coach, loaded with goal-scoring stars - a team with hardly a weakness. They may have slipped a few places in the table occasionally; they may have played better on some grounds than others; their collective style may have changed a little; but they have always come back to the top and they are still there over 25 years later. Within the unpredictable and ever-changing field of popular Guitar music, this achievement is doubly remarkable. E. K., as he is popularly known, was recording when most of the present Ghanaian Bands were not yet born. The real masterpiece of this disc, and for which it is worth the money alone, is this special number ME TE PA MANI AGYINA WO. Those of us, who are grown enough to temember the "GOOD OLD DAYS" will bear me witness - that there was nobody in Ghana at that time who could not sing, whistle or hum that tune. By 1950 they were in the top rank of Ghanaian entertainers, E. K.'s BAND had fashion and talent on their side and the public flocked to see them. They have the added attraction of not only sounding good but being able to provide plenty of action on stage. E.K. NYAME is not only a fine musician with a thorough grounding of experience behind him, but a great and active personality. He has the star quality which cannot be denied, and which, even more to the point, comes through on record as an irresistible force. At this stage, I must make mention of KWABENA OKAI, whose powerful treble voice contributed enormously to the success of the famous and long-living E. K.'s BAND.
