Band,
Jazz and Rock
Eardance were a early 80's avant garde, jazz, prog rock band hailing from Chicago, Illinois. Jim Jacobsen was the mastermind behind the project, comprised of some of the most talented and eclectic of musicians around, at the time. Influences for the group were King Crimson, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Steve Reich, in fact Jacobsen taught himself Robert Fripps style of guitar playing as well as mastering the Chapman Stick in just the few weeks, leading up to the recording sessions. In 1982 the band released their first and only album, "Seek Opposites" on Touch Records. It featured a wide array of instruments handled mostly by multi-instrumentalist Jacobsen (bass, Chapman Stick, guitar, synthesizers, pianos), Dixie Treichel (hand percussion), Homero Ceron (drums, percussion), and Russ Berger(lead vocals). Unfortunately, the album didn't receive much attention, as It was produced & released independently in Chicago so sales and distribution were pretty small. Eardance were, also, a more challenging listen than the early 80s new wave, pop that ruled the charts at the time. The band survived, through numerous personnel changes, until spring, 1988 when the band broke up. Jim Jacobsen moved to Los Angeles, where he became a Film and TV composer and a staff song writer for Warner Bros. His music had been used in Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction,The Simpsons and Mad Men , to name but a few. . Dixie Treichel left the band and went back to Graduate in composition at the University of Chicago. Homero Ceron moved to Tucson, Arizona and plays with the orchestra there and teaches a lot. Singer Russell Berger pass away in 1996. Guitarist Keith Field, who joined the band in late 83, lives with his family in Los Angeles. Todd Richardson joined the band in May 1985 now lives in Chicago. Keyboardist David Cornel, was an , unfortunate, early AIDS victim in 1984.
