A.k.a. Fred Everett Smith
US comedian and guitarist. Born 31 August 1924 in Marshall, NC - Died 4 June 2006 in Walland, TN. Performed with his cousin Red Rector (mandolin) as "Red and Fred". 1942: recorded in New York City the "Old Chisholm Trail" with Woody Guthrie, Burl Ives, J.E. and Wade Mainer for the BBC. Also worked with Archie Campbell, Boots Randolph, Grandpa Jones, Kenny Baker, Jimmy Martin and many other country and bluegrass artists. During the last years of his life, he performed at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge, TN, and recorded with the VW Boys.
