He was a singer and actor on television and radio, and founded his publishing firm in 1958. Joining ASCAP in 1956, his other popular-song compositions include "Princess", "A Little Dog Cried", "Rock-A-Billy", "Small Sad Sam", "Hootenanny", and "The Way It Was (The Way It Is)".
