A.k.a. Edwin Richard Eckstein
South African entertainer, actor and drummer born in Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg on 29th November 1939. Following drumming lessons with Gene Latimore and playing the pub dive circuit with various bands, Eddie heard the music of the Beatles and decided to form a band with Paul Ditchfield in 1963. That band was called the Bats. Their first song released reached the number one spot on Springbok Radio and L.M. Radio, and they went on to a string of hits. After the band split, Eddie pursued a solo career as manager for P.J. Powers's group Pantha, appeared on TV shows ("Biltong & Potroast", "Oh George" and "Telly Fun Quiz") and numerous standup comedy spots locally and abroad. He continues to work extensively in cabaret and the entertainment circuit along with the reformed Bats.
