Orchestrator and composer for film music. Was elected President of ASMA in 1946 and initiated the first tentative liaison with the Screen Composers’ Association. Wa sactive in modernizing copyright law in the 1940s. His professional duties as the chief arranger and orchestrator at Twentieth-Century Fox caused him to resign as President after one year. He became Alfred Newman’s right-hand man throughout his storied tenure at 20th Century-Fox b. Dec. 5, 1909 in Carroll County, IL d. Feb. 28, 1984 in Los Angeles, CA
