Elaine Strodder was 19 years old when she was tragically killed in a road accident in December, 1963. Born in Sheffield she lived in the city all her life and grew to love its dark rugged hills and industrial preoccupation. A very lively person, she held many forthright opinions on the world and was not afraid to augment her ideas with action. Elaine was a christian, she believed the Christian Faith and as well as being an active member of her church she formed a YCND group to put her beliefs into practice. But her great love was music, especially singing. Elaine enjoyed singing from an early age and upon leaving school joined the Sheffield Philharmonic Choir and took part in many concerts and recitals. Enjoying all kinds of music from jazz to the Classics, Elaine had a particular liking for English folk music and was largely responsible for starting Sheffield Barley Mow Club. Although nervous at first Elaine began to sing in the Folk Clubs around the district and two of these recordings were made live in a club. These are songs she particularly liked, and on behalf of her many friends I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs, Strodder for allowing them to be published; the kind of memorial I think Elaine would most appreciate.
