Owner of Key and Zodiac labels, Eldred Stebbing was one of New Zealand's recording pioneers and responsible for many of New Zealand's greatest records. Eldred and his brother started their studios and labels in the immediate post WWII era and began recording local acts, and releasing licensed US and UK records. They often gave the overseas hits to their local acts and held back the foreign original. Over the next four decades Zodiac and Key, which dominated the NZ local industry, released hundreds of New Zealand acts, many of which were produced by Eldred, and sold several million records. Unfortunately in recent times he was mired in some controversy over the non payment of royalties to some of the more successful acts. In 2010 his studio is one of Australasia's biggest CD and DVD manufacturing companies. Stebbing died in December, 2009. His son Vaughan Stebbing continued the businesses.
