Singer of World, R&B/Soul and Folk
Born 1907 in New Rochelle, NY her parents ran a grocery store and had no money to finance her vocal training. She became a dressmaker and sang at work. When she sang "Depuis le Jour" from "Louise" she was "discovered" by a client who saw to it that Miss Davis had the best training available. She gave her debut in October, 1044 in a Town Hall recital. She then gave concerts in Boston, Indianapolis, Carnegie Hall, Mexico City, Europe, Israel, and South America. She died in 1960.
