A.k.a. Ellen Kekoaahiwaikalani Wright Prendergast

b. 1865; d. 1902 In 1893, Prendergast wrote the lyrics to the anthem of Hawaiian sovereignty, "Kaulana Na Pua" in response to the overthrow of Queen Lili‘uokalani . This song was performed in the 1890's, almost disappeared during the first half of the Twentieth Century, was rediscovered in the 1950's and has been widely performed since.
