In Los Nòstres Vices E Pecats (Our vices and sins), Els Berros de la Cort have aimed to bring to life the Catalan and Occitan troubadour repertoire, adapting to the present day compositions of 12th to 14th century writers. The literary material for the songs was obtained from Catalan medieval manuscripts, such as the 14th century Llibre de Sent Soví, the oldest preserved cookery treatise written in Catalan, and the Speculum al foder, a sex manual which is the first European treatise on andrology and sexual hygiene to include a section on sex positions. With this selection of music and texts, and using the technique of contrafacta, we have created new songs, changing the lyrics in the selected pieces, and linking the new repertoire to two ideas; gluttony and lust, two of the most common sins, both in the Middle Ages and today.
