The book "Popular American Recording Pioneers: 1895-1925" lists release date of December, 1917 on page 37. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph from December 12, 1917 has an advertisement in the lower left portion of page 9 about Elsie Baker's Messiah recording. We cannot get much closer to a release date than that so far.
