b. Emmanuel Pugatschov, 8 August 1909, Warsaw. Poland d. 18 December 1993, Kibbutz Yaqum Israeli composer-educator. Family emigrated to Russia at age 5 and eventually to Palestine in 1924. Co-founded the "Music Teachers Seminary" in Tel Aviv, together with Prof. Leo Kestenberg. 1948 appointed officer and instructor of musical activities in the IDF and was co-founder of the IDF orchestra. 1949, began twenty-year run as Directing Supervisor of Music Education in the Ministry of Education and Culture. Compositions include over 600 Hebrew folksongs, incidental music for theater and cinema, music for public celebrations, and works for piano, orchestra, voice, and chamber ensembles.
