German actor from Swiss origins, born July 23, 1884 in Rorschach, Switzerland, and dead January 23, 1950 in Strobl, Austria. He was the first Oscar recipient, honored with the Academy Award for 'Best Actor' at the 1929 ceremony. He's still the only German to have won the 'Best Actor Oscar'.
