Emilita Dago is an all around entertainer born in Havana, Cuba on November 12, 1933. She began as a child performer, singing and dancing in social events, community centers and finally on radio and television. At age 16 she co-starred with the popular comedy team of Garrido y Peñeiro (Alberto Garrido and Federico Piñero) in the film "Cuando las mujeres mandan (1951) and again in "Misión al norte de Seoul” /(1953). As an young adult she went on to host highly-rated television shows and lead musical revues at Havana´s most popular night clubs. Her recordings of Spanish tunes in the album "Esto es el cuplé" (1959) won her a gold record and confirmed her popularity on radio. However things were changng drastically with the arrival of the Cuban revolution, so Miis Dago, along with so many other Cuban artists, decided to go in exile. She landed in Caracas, Venezuela and after some initial struggles she was hired as a vocalist in Venezuela´s popular band Los Melódicos. Emilita was a big hit singing novelty dancing tunes and her records with los Melódicos achieved great popularity on the radio and with record buyers. Emilita Dago became a household name in Venezuela and she never looked back until she decided to retire in the 1990´s. Miss Dago lives quietly in Miami with family but in 2016 she was honored in a tribute to her career with a sold out event at Miami-Dade County Auditorium.
