Ephraim LaSalle

A.k.a. Ephraim Lessell

Ephraim Lessell is a musician, performer, author, and inventor. He began writing songs at age 11 in the year following his brother Jason's suicide. His songs include "Silence", "Tell Me", and "Cool Nights" which were performed, recorded and distributed internationally by the music group "Bim Ska La Bim", which Lessell co-founded in 1983. As a solo artist, and performing with Lexington High School classmate Chris Hart, he recorded dozens of songs including "Lost and Found", "Audrey Hepburn", and "Insatiable". After attending college at Brandeis University, Lessell recorded one folk song for Jack Hardy's Fast Folk Record Label. The song "Wooden Bed" ultimately became part of The Smithsonian Institute's collection. Lessell is the author of two children's books: "The King of Halloween" and "Blue Moon", which are due to be published in 2019. Ephraim Lessell is a vocal critic of police abuses, bureaucracy, American foreign policy, gratuitous domestic militarization, the American legal system, war glorification, talk psychotherapy, liberal hypocrisy, societal and familial marginalization of the mentally ill, Jew haters, and public ignorance of fundamental scientific principles. His creations reflect his disdain for the aforementioned entities as well as his love of silliness and the absurd. Lessell is the son of two physicians: Irma M. Lessell, MD and Simmons Lessell MD. He grew up in historic Lexington, MA along side other Lexington notables such as Mark Ferranti (bass guitarist, composer, & member of music group "Bim Ska La Bim"), Amanda Palmer (composer, performer, author, and co-founder of music duo "The Dresden Dolls"), Rachel Dratch (Actor, writer, Saturday Night Live cast member), Noam Chomsky (linguist, politcal theorist & activist), and Gillian Gill (author, lecturer, and feminist). Lessell lives unmarried and without children.
