Eric Beach

Eric Cha-Beach is an American percussionist and composer, a member of So Percussion ensemble since 2007. He received a BMus degree from the Peabody institute, where he studied with Robert van Sice and won Yale Gordon Concerto Competition, and his MMus at the Yale University School of Music. On a Fulbright fellowship grant, Eric pursued additional studies with Bernhard Wulff in Freiburg, Germany. With So Percussion, Eric Beach has appeared on stage at Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music and dozens of other prestigious venues in the United States, as well as toured in Russia, Spain, Australia and other countries. The artist had an opportunity to collaborate with Steve Reich, Steven Mackey, Paul Lansky, David Lang, Matmos, Dan Deacon, and many others notable musicians and composers. In addition to performing with So Percussion, Eric plays in the bass/percussion duo Druid Hill with bass player Evan Lipson. As a composer, Eric Cha-Beach wrote pieces featured in several programs by So Percussion. He also composed soundtrack for a dance film Parts Don't Work (2011) by choreographer KT Niehoff. Eric's electronic music has been featured as ambient pre-show music during 2012 Look and Listen Festival, as well as Amid The Noise Remixes (2011) album. Beach is a performer-in-residence at Princeton University, as well as a co-director and principal administrator of the So Percussion Summer Institute, an annual intensive course on Princeton campus started in 2009. He is also a co-director of a new 5-year percussion program at Longy School of Music of Bard College.
