Conductor of Classical and Brass
Eric Banks is a well-known international conductor and adjudicator of orchestras, wind bands and brass bands. His many concerts, broadcasts and recordings have earned him an enviable reputation and a worldwide audience. Musicians of all ages, seasoned professionals, students, happy amateurs, all easily respond to Eric's enthusiastic leadership and warm communication from the rostrum. Whilst defending strongly the well-established repertoire, his particular love is to introduce new music from different parts of the world in which he has worked, UK, Europe, USA, Russia, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. His long career in the Music Services of the Royal Air Force (UK) ended in 1989, an unbroken period of 40 years. Following this he was invited to record for Toshiba-EMI and so founded the London Symphonic Wind Orchestra for their fine classical recordings on the Toshiba-EMI label. His recordings are to be found on the labels of: EMI(UK), EMI-Electrola(Germany), Toshiba-EMI(Japan), Victor Music/HMV(Japan), Kosei Publishing Co.(Japan), Studio G(UK), Polyphonic(UK), Bandleader(UK), Dansan(UK), Angel-EMI(USA), BG Music (Australia). Among his many roles throughout his career are those of conductor, examiner, adjudicator, broadcaster, visiting academic and professor at the London Trinity College of Music, London Guildhall School of Music, London College of Music, University of Florida-USA, Showa University-Japan, Saratov Conservatorium-Russia and the Elder Conservatorium of Music in South Australia. Now resident in Adelaide, South Australia, Eric was appointed in 1996 a "Justice of the Peace".
