Compil. UK 1993 on Stern's Africa label
Latin, Folk, World and (African, Afro-Cuban, Mbalax)
This first volume includes one of Youssou's earliest successes, an interpretation of Jalo in praise of an ancient king, which was recorded several times under different circumstances. Absa Gueye was one of his first original compositions in praise of a patron, while "Tu Veras", "Esta China" and "El Hombre Misterioso Soy" are characteristic examples of the Latin sounds popular in the early years of Senegalese dance music.
