Gospel singer, writer, teacher, editor, and publisher (December 24, 1885, Waynesville, MO—January 25, 1941, Siloam Springs, AS). He taught singing schools throughout the southern United States, founded the Hartford Music Company in Hartford, Arkansas, and was editor of the music magazine Herald of Song. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1979. His son Eugene, Jr. (Gene Bartlett), was also a hymnist and composer.
