A.k.a. Nick Wilson
Exploding Schoolgirls is a solo project of Paper Hat Records founder Nick Wilson. The project began in 2005 and is currently on hiatus. Musically and lyrically, the project is pretty much a free-for-all, treading across genres from 1960s pop and psychedelia to 1970s glam and krautrock, 1980s new wave and synth pop to 1990s lo-fi. There are two currently unreleased albums. The first is a self-titled album recorded over the course of 2005 and 2006 and comprised of 18 tracks of home-recorded experimental pop. The second album, titled "Feast of Excited Insects", was recorded from summer 2007 to summer 2008, with 50 short pop songs spanning a huge array of styles and influences, all fitting on a single CD. There are also a significant amount of orphaned tracks and abandoned projects. Wilson plans to eventually release much of this material at some point down the road. The only currently released Exploding Schoolgirls is a track, "Queen of the Popular Crowd" (from the "Feast of Excited Insects" album) on the compilation Never Dreamed Night Freeze Sandwich.
