Originally based in Richmond, Virginia, F Word relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1991. The band, comprised of John Dietrich (guitar), Syd James (sax), Clay Farmer (vocals and sax) and Dhani Shattuck (bass), have created a unique sound based upon using the saxophone as a primary instrument - but not in a typical way. The saxophones are almost like guitars in their essential role in most of the songs. Other touches include slightly retro-psychedelia and funky rhythms to take make their songs both familiar and new at the same time. Some influences include Chic, Roxy Music, The Police, The Talking Heads and maybe a touch of Pink Floyd.
