From the "Fastilio" CD back cover (the only album representing them): Fastilio is a group of women musicians formed in 1992 and drawing upon experience gained in the musical collective Laboratorio di Musica & Immagine, a group which performs live music to silent movies. Leaving the films aside, the experience of creating music to images remains central to the work of Fastilio as does the narrative development for the improvvisation. Added to this is a dose of chaotic self-irony which is then blended together with a predilection for limping rhythms, sharp harmonies and a curiosity for the simple physical qualities of the sounds. When listening to the music of Fastilio, exciting and hilarious stories can be conjured up, creating a network of meaning and yet it is still possible to remain tied to rhytmic constraints and refrains which result in a complex yet simultaneously simple superimposition. Fastilio ranges from the extreme of "fully-written" music to "fully-improvised" music, - from each musician's affection for the sound of her own instrument to the exchange of roles, from instrumental music to the music of the verbal text, to scores for voices only.
