Producer of Soundtrack
Born in 1947, Voorburg. Radio man of the early hours and the voice of the famous Soulshow. Changed once and for all the sound of Dutch radio and inspired millions of listeners. The Soulshow opened the doors for a lot of (Dutch) musicians, producers and artists who identified themselves with soul music. Classically trained at the conservatory with piano as major, in the late sixties, Radio Noordzee adopted him as a DJ. This is where his renowned Soul Show started to see life. After Radio Noordzee going defunct, he continued hosting his show on TROS radio. Within a short time Ferry’s popularity went through the roof: as of now the thursday nights (the nights of broadcast) were known to be the prologue of the weekend. In his show Ferry Maat introduced all the new flavours in dance music such as the Philly Sound, Disco, Funk, Hip Hop and Chicago House. Ferry's influence reached beyond everything he had ever dreamt of. In the wake of his success he pulled bands as The Trammps, Tavares, Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang along with him. The number of Import record stores grew exponentially, deejays became more common, and disco music was finally been taking seriously by critics. Among components as the overwhelming number of weekly listeners, the magnificent broadcasting of live concerts, the creative jingle use, Ferry Maat’s initiation of De Bond Van Doorstarters formed the core most diehard fans remember the Soulshow by and as the real peak in the history of the show. By literally cutting and pasting music tapes and by the use of sequencers, samplers and drum machines it was the idea to “remix” several tracks into one. This new “remix” thing stimulated a whole new generation of artists and soon to be DJ’s, such as Olav Basoski, Ferry Corsten, Michel De Hey, Peter Slaghuis, 100% Isis, DJ Jean and many others. All claim to have been deeply inspired by the association of the Bond Van Doorstarters mixes and Ferry’s inexhaustible passion.
