Fleur Jaeggy

A.k.a. Carlotta Wieck

Fleur Jaeggy was born in Zurich and has lived in Milan since 1968. Her beginning lay in 1968 with Il dito in bocca. Winner of the Bagutta and Boccaccio Europa Prizes, Fleur Jaeggy is a master stylist: her work, as The New Yorker remarked, is small-scale, intense, and impeccably focused. With Adelphi she also published: L'angelo custode, Le statue d'acqua, I beati anni del castigo, La paura del cielo and Proleterka. She translated Vite immaginarie by Marcel Schwob and Gli ultimi giorni di Immanuel Kant by Thomas De Quincey (Adelphi, Milano 1983). She wrote on Schwob, De Quincey, Keats and Robert Walser. Her books have been translated in 18 languages. Fleur Jaeggy wrote some of Franco Battiato's songs: Hiver, Le Aquile, and the German text of L'Oceano di Silenzio.
