Floyd Ray


Jazz

b.: July 19, 1909 (Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S. or possibly in Parsons, Kansas, U.S.) d.: November 15, 1985 American jazz bandleader. First started his career as a dancer, but due to a broken leg, oriented himself to the function of jazz bandleader from 1934 on. He studied at the Scranton Conservatory of Music. His orchestra was first named the Harlem Dictators, but afterwards they were known simply as Floyd Ray And His Orchestra. After the war, he also founded a band called The Californians. He also (co-)founded a label in Los Angels at the end of his career: Ray-Co Records.
